Dogecoin creator vs “Web3” again

Billy Markus, the creator of Dogecoin, has once again made fun of the Web3 community. In his latest tweet, he claims that Web3 users are only after the money without offering any goods or services in return. This is not the first time that Markus has publicly spoken out against Web3.

The developer started mocking Web3 after Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey spoke out against the Web3 phenomenon. Musk was an ardent critic of Web3, using memes and other methods. In one of his tweets, he referred to Web3 as a marketing buzzword for now, rather than a reality.

Later, the world’s richest man tweeted, “Has anyone seen Web3? I can not find it.” Mark also responded to the tweet with a gif of someone looking down the toilet, implying that Web3 is low and dirty.

The online interaction between Elon Musk and Billy Markus ended with another gif of Musk showing someone drowning in a toilet and the caption, “Just keep walking. Another prominent figure who has vocally criticized Web3 is Jack Dorsey. The co-founder of Twitter and CEO of Blocks has spoken out against the heavy involvement of venture capitalists in Web3.

In response to Musk’s post about the whereabouts of Web3, Dorsey replied, “It’s somewhere between A and Z.” It is believed to be venture capitalist Andreessen Horowitz.

The firm, VC, also known as a16z, has been a prominent investor in the Web3 and DeFi space. While some developers welcome the influx of money, many like Dorsey believe it detracts from the core of cryptocurrency, decentralization.

But while Dorsey opposes Web3 because it is controlled by VCs and is not decentralized, Markus seems to have another reason.

Judging from his tweets, Markus’ main reason for disliking Web3 is that it offers no value and he is only in it for the money.
